March 2025 Flash Fiction Winner: Power

WOAF PI Flash Fiction - March 2025 - Power

Confession
By Susannah Cosham

We met by chance, but he pulled me closer on a string that he called love, and when it grew taut, I spent sleepless nights clinging to that wire, too afraid to look down in case there was nowhere safe to fall. At first, I followed along gladly, clinging to what I believed was fate. Now, I wonder if it’s my destiny to be tethered to someone who can only see who I used to be. Sometimes, I grab hold of the line and pull myself closer to ease the tension—moving under my own power, but never in control.

Susannah Cosham lives in Melbourne. She is a longtime collector of words and stories, writing literary fiction of all lengths. “The most important part of the process is finding my characters’ voices, because I believe that the distance between what they think and what they say is where their characterisation lies.”
(You might also recognise Susannah as one of our lovely
creative writing mentors!)
