September 2024 Flash Fiction Winner: Doors
Desperation
By Brodie Selzer
CLICK.
The man’s arm vaporised into a smoothie, smearing my face. Lard was never one for nice words, would never learn. I was out of weapons and time.
I dodged the mangled corpse as it dropped beside my foot, dislodging my sword from the glinting glass wall we’d gotten pinned beside. The entire skyscraper was coming down around us, but the bloody guards weren’t saving themselves.
The ceiling caved, FINALLY a crack in the impenetrable line of soldiers. I dashed through, arm snatched by plasma, VITAL. injected into my flesh as I escaped, pursued by army on the street.
Brodie Selzer is from rural Victoria, loving the opportunity to write and create worlds with the power of the pen.
“I love writing and creating worlds. I’m too optimistic and a daydreamer, but that’s led to cool stories and meeting interesting people in real life, so if I can be writing stories I’m pretty happy.”
